A Day of Natural Dyes and Shady Plants in the garden
Natural dye and eco print workshops, with Bella Gonshorovitz, author of 'Grow, Cook, Dye, Wear - From seed to style the sustainable way' and Growing in the Shade – A talk, Q&A and shade-plant sale ,with Susanna Grant, author of 'Shade'.
Natural dye and eco print workshops (children 10:00-12:00, adults 14:00-16:00) Bella will demonstrate and explain the natural dye process: mordanting and preparing the dye vat, fabric consideration, and botanical dye history. We will practice eco printing with food scraps, petals, leaves, and plant extracts for children. For adults, we will experiment with onion skin, nettle and rhubarb.

If you can, please bring along: kitchen scraps such as tea bags, coffee grounds, onion skin, red cabbage, avocado skin and stones; petals and leaves. Natural fabric or preloved items in cotton, linen or silk.
Growing in the Shade – A talk, Q&A and shade-plant sale From 12.00 - 12.30 Susanna will give a short talk on the importance of growing in shady spaces, what the right plants are and how to create an impact in small spaces. She will also have a selection of shade-tolerant plants to buy and will answer questions.
