Imagined Portraits - self-led art activity at Crossbones Graveyard

12-2pm
  • Art
  • ,
  • Open garden

Many of the people buried at Crossbones Graveyard, in London's SE1, left no trace in historical records. We don't know their names, we can't see their faces, but we know they existed. They were buried here because society considered them outcasts.

Imagined Portraits invite us to consider the lives of those buried at Crossbones and honor them through a drawing or words.

Portraiture artist Minnie Scott recently ran Imagined Portraits at the site and has developed a self-led activity for Chelsea Fringe. Visitors are invited to simply sit in the space and see who comes to mind. Then using a table of materials, draw or write your imagined portrait - you can either leave it in the garden as an act of creative commemoration or take your portrait home.

Imagined Portraits - self-led edition - is available throughout Chelsea Fringe Week. A tour of the site is also available on May 27 2022 with Landcape Architect ad Crossbones Project Manager Helen John - see our other events for more. Tours run at 12pm, 12.45pm and 1.30pm and include a q and a.
